About this deal

It was clear from the beginning which lawn fertilizer weed killers would get the top position in testing. Lush green lawns are our business. We are innovators and leaders in creating the finest quality grass seed and have been working on our genetically superior grass seed since 1881. Today, Jonathan Green has an entire line of lawn care products that can turn any lawn into one that is healthy and green. The active weed killer ingredients include Dicamba and Mecoprop which are pretty common in agriculture and shouldn’t be too much of a concern, especially if you follow the instructions properly. Salty water is a pet-friendly weed killer for use on hard surfaces. However, too much salt is bad for the ground as it persists and can stop plants from growing for several years. My issue with salt is; it isn’t selective, and soil contamination will affect all plants. If you must use it, I’ve found that if you mix one part salt to five parts water and apply directly to the leaves of the weeds, you should get good results. It would be best if you didn’t use salt regularly, but it’s okay as a one-off (i.e. once a year) treatment of weeds on hard surfaces, provided you don’t allow excess salt to run off the leaves of the weeds.

Seaweed has long been used as a soil improver, thanks to its natural content of nitrogen, potassium and phosphates. Endorsed by the Royal Horticultural Society, this liquid seaweed stimulant from Plantworks contains organic seaweed extract that improves plant development by increasing chlorophyll production. The feed also contains extra iron from sustainably harvested kelp extract. Now that the weather is warm, it’s the perfect time to tend to your lawn. Unfortunately though, many traditional lawn care products are toxic for our furry friends. How can you know which ones best for pet-safe lawn care? Here’s a list of some of our favorite pet-safe weed killers, fertilizers and more! Organic Pet-Safe Weed Preventer Any fertiliser in the bag if eaten in quantity can be harmful so store out of reach of children and petsYour climate and grass growth drive each shipment date. The organic approach to lawn care takes time. Be patient, since nature needs time to break down nutrients. I’ve come to the conclusion that this weed killer does work but should be applied every month during the growing season. In terms of actual timing, you want to complete the cut and clear process a few days, maybe four, before you want to spread the lawn weed and feed. The best month to take this on is April or May. My pro tip is to half feed the lawn twice rather than go all in the first time. Something I wasn’t so keen on was the odour of this weed killer. It wasn’t horrendous, but you could never call it pleasant either, and it was quite strong. Lawn fertilisers that are largely organic are safe for dogs and other animals. Although they also contain nutrient salts, these are incorporated into organic matter and are therefore found in lower concentrations. Keep in mind that carnivorous pets are quite fond of eating organic animal-based fertilisers! Blood meal, bone meal, ground slaughterhouse waste and other animal-derived ingredients are tempting to our furry friends – so it is not uncommon for them to eat such fertilisers, given the chance. We also understand that animal lovers are generally not too keen on the idea of spreading ground-up animal parts in their garden. For this reason, a animal-free, primarily organic and pet-friendly lawn feedis a better choice not only for those of us who let our cats or dogs roam around in the garden freely, but also for animal lovers generally.

Manual Weed Control

GreenView Turf Nurture Natural Base Lawn Fertilizer is rich in natural and organic materials to give your lawn the boost it needs while keeping your pets safe. It contains 70% slow-release nitrogen and no harmful chemicals. In the heat of an English summer, the grass won’t be growing – in fact, it’s more likely to be scorched by any fertilisers. Stop feeding your lawn during prolonged dry spells, and once there’s been a good rainfall, wait a few days then feed again. Aim to feed the lawn every six to eight weeks throughout the summer. With the lawn cut take out your scarifier. I like to use a scarifier and lawn raker. My preference is the Bosch lawn raker and scarifier. Some prefer to go with a lawn scarifier and aerator in one. In that situation I would use the Einhell scarifier and aerator as it’s my favourite choice at the moment. Application is as usual super easy. Personally I’d use the lawn spreader on larger areas. Bit of a cheat but still, isn’t lawn weed and feed just that? 😀 In mid-spring (late March to April), when the soil is moist or when rain is expected, you can feed your lawn with a product that contains weed and moss control. It will kill off any moss that’s grown over winter, and help accelerate grass growth after the cold months. Once the weeds are under control, it’s fine to use a lawn feed that solely feeds the grass.
