About this deal

My only issue is the heartbeat sounds interwoven into the score at certain moments, because heartbeats are overdone and I think we can be a little more creative than that. Time will tell if 'Gravity' has any lasting impact on cinema or the culture at large, but for me this film is already one of many personal favorites. And, my personal favorite: when Stone is given a moment to rest at the film's mid-point, she looks down on the "eye of the storm". Although Gravity wasn't shot with IMAX cameras, it demonstrated how a story could match the technical specifications of projection to go even bigger and wider than what audiences were perhaps anticipating.

The dialogue here is awkwardly clunky at times and laughably ridiculous at others – particularly during a scene where Bullock is instructed by Clooney to stop talking to conserve her rapidly depleting oxygen reserves – only for him to completely contradict himself five seconds later by firing off a nonstop barrage of questions at her (in an effort to keep her calm) – thus forcing her to unnecessarily deplete her oxygen supplies – what? The picture it paints for the future of space exploration is troubling indeed, especially as solutions seem few and far between. I saw it just before Christmas in Imax 3D and yes it was amazing, but I dare say it’s still impressive in 2D. Gravity is undoubtedly the most convincing portrayal of human beings interracting with a hostile alien envirnonment seen since James Cameron’s The Abyss in 1989. As such, this review will contain one quickie (hopefully) zero-spoiler review followed by a more in-depth version that, reader be warned, will dance around mid to later plot points, twists, and setpieces.I understand Angelina Jolie was originally pegged for the role, which wouldn’t have been all that terrific either. This curious dichotomy also extends to Gravity’s creation, with Cuarón and his colleagues having to employ the very latest, cutting-edge filmmaking techniques and technologies at every stage of the production process to bring this surprisingly intimate and humanistic tale to life. It was a basic, high concept: throw a couple of stars in space, introduce them to peril and watch in hope that they will overcome adversity and make it back to earth, and in the skilful hands of director Alfonso Cuaron the idea became tantalising. Parks — who is supervising the 3D on Doug Liman‘s Edge of Tomorrow — likens native and postconverted stereo to the creative choice between special (in-camera) and visual (produced in the computer) effects.

and Angelina Jolie were still attached to the project, the plan was to shoot the movie with a 3D camera rig. And though 'Gravity' is cleaning up at various awards season ceremonies, I'm so, so glad Warners released this Blu-ray before the actual announcements.Director Christopher Nolan had already shot block sequences of his films The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012) with IMAX cameras, further legitimizing the format as a practical filmmaking tool. Gravity also received a large number of additional awards, recognising the incredible Direction, VFX and use of sound - and was selected to open the Venice Film Festival. Applications like Big Screen and Skybox can play these as full 3D on huge virtual cinemas, and the Quest resolution and lack of SDE really does it justice.

Because of the scene's choreography, I can understand why it looks like, to some, as though these two characters have stopped, when they're still arcing outwards at the end of the parachute straps. Gravity is no exception, and it’s arguably his best cinematic endeavor, although that’s a tough contest against Children of Men, Y Tu Mamá Tambien, and my personal favorite of the Harry Potter films. Instead, floating the Martin the Martian doll in front of our eyes is a grace moment, a brief downshift into something pleasant, setting the audience up for the real shock just to come.It showed that 3D can be used for Drama as well as spectacle - and looks set to usher into an alternative genre of 3D films. For others, it will be a profoundly human drama, with a fight for survival amidst the chaos and randomness of disaster and the forces of nature. If you missed Gravity in IMAX the first time or are keen to embark on the journey, the movie is on IMAX 3D release at Cineworld today.

Cuarón’s masterpiece took place in space, and to put viewers in Sandra Bullock’s weightless shoes, Cuarón and his team (including of hundreds of individuals and numerous Digital FX, camera, conversion and facial mapping companies) envisioned the film from the very start as a 3D picture. Though nothing can recreate your first viewing on the largest screen possible, I would also argue this thrill ride of tension and suspense improves, or at least maintains its initial impact, on repeat viewings thanks to bold filmmaking and detailed layers of visual metaphors. Ryan Stone, a novice astronaut who finds herself fighting for her life after a catastrophic accident in Earth’s orbit. All guests who present a ticket for a film screening, Tuesday through Saturday (and the first Sunday of every month), receive 10% off all food and non-alcoholic beverages at Fanny's. widescreen – and, honestly, you’d be hard-pushed to find two finer looking video presentations in the charts at the moment. Like 'Lawrence of Arabia', 'Jurassic Park', 'Avatar', or any grand Hollywood adventure, 'Gravity' is a motion picture experience meant for the big screen with booming sound. But despite the masterful execution, dramatic visuals, unique sound design and incredible editing, Gravity is a masterpiece in technical engineering alone and has surprisingly hollow characterisation and a weak narrative.
